Backstitching is a kind of stitchy art itself. There could be said much about getting your backstitching neat and fine. But the most challenging backstitch is white backstitch. When you don't know some secrets, it can look...well...like the sewing machine stitch. I love adding white colour for backstitch in my designs (and I also love to stitch them myself)), so I supposed a piece of advice could be handy.
1) When doing white backstitch it's crutial to grab a little bit of the previous stitch with the needle. So the next backstitch is well attached to the previous one.
2) Consider replacing the stitching thread with the sewing thread of matching thickness if you need to do 2-stranded backstitch.
3) Try couching instead of backstitching. You will need to work with 2 needles at the same time. With one needle secure the thread, bring it up and lay it on the stitchery where the backstitching should go. With another needle and another white thread fasten in place the first thread with small stitches over the main thread.
Follow the tips and never be afraid of white backstitching!
